Pre Production, Day 2

John was unable to attend this session. In spite of that, we were able to be quite productive, pre producing “Lovelorn.” Leading us in new directions to help expand our sound and grow, Derek created an excellent loop and had me use effects that not only made my guitar sound huge and sonically different, but forced me to approach the song differently and completely change my part, yet it retains much of the original guitar line (the more things change, the more they stay the same?). Rob tweaked and fine tuned his bass parts and made them even more hypnotic and driving. And there will be strings. Yeah! Strings. And the vocals? Magic.

Pre production is where it’s at!

Rock. Roll. Repeat.

You Can’t Stop the Rock

Airways hit a couple of speed bumps. Perhaps we slowed down a little too much for a short while. But you know what they say – “You can’t stop the Rock.” We are now at cruising speed and back at the Barn, in the beginning stages of recording three more tunes. We’ve missed Derek; we’re so happy to be working with him again.

Last Sunday, we pre-produced “Queen” and “Chasing Ghosts.” Even if we don’t record these tunes this time around, they are showing an evolution of Airways. And, Derek has gotten me into (modeled) tape delay/echo. I’m very excited. Very excited. This Sunday, we’ll be pre-proing “Lovelorn.” It already features one of Sanna’s finest moments and the entire song is only going to get better.

What Gets Me Going – Lana Del Rey

I’m finally giving a good listen to Lana Del Rey’s newest album, “Born To Die.” When she was on Saturday Night Live a few months back, she got all kinds of negativity. I dunno, I thought she was really good. She has that cool new sound, which is the old sound. I could hear Chris Isaak singing these tunes but he’s been retro since before being retro was cool.

The song Blue Jeans is a stand-out. Lots of cool production noises and layers. It has an amazing bridge and I’m always a sucker for that. Great move to get out of it and back to the chorus. Follow that with “Video Games”, which was another single. That’s some strong stuff.

Rock. Roll. Repeat.

Happy “Valentine” Day

Finally, my sparkles, after much planning, shooting, reshooting and editing we have completed the video for “Valentine”. Our friend and fantastic film maker Francesco Muto did a fabulous job with it and we couldn’t be happier. Please drop us a line to let us know what you think . I hope everyone is having the best spring. I’m so glad the weather is warming up. I like it hot. We’ll see you soon at our next show, Thursday 7/5, downstairs at World Cafe Live.

So our first two singles have been released and it feels good! Please check out “Valentine” and “Sparkle in the Bleak” on the music page. This year we will be recording more tracks for our upcoming full length record. In the more immediate future, we’ll be releasing the first official Airways video. It’s for “Valentine” and it’s being filmed by our good friend Francesco Muto. We’re right in the middle of shooting now and so psyched to see how it turns out! In the midst of these things, we have some shows coming up that we hope you’ll join us for. On 3/2 we’ll be part of Headhouse’s First Friday music & art party. 3/23 brings another appearance at our current favorite club, Legendary Dobbs, for an Origivation / our friend Veronika’s b-day party. Also, on 4/26 we’re playing an anti bullying fundraiser at Grape Room in Manayunk. If you can make any of these shows, we’d love to see you

Singles!

Hey Friends,

We have officially finished recording the singles! They’re being sent off to mastering so we’ll hopefully have them up here for you very soon . They sound so sweet. I can’t wait for you all to check them out. We’re currently taking a little break from playing to work out logistics and plan for recording the rest of the record, which we’ll be doing over the course of this year. We’ll be back to playing live again this spring, with a few more bells and whistles added to our live show. You can get a sneak peak at our updated stage show and the tunes we’ll be recording for the debut album (are they called “albums” anymore?) at our special sneak preview show, which will be Fri, 3/2 at Headhouse in Olde City.

Recording update and holiday show!

We are on our way to finishing the first official Airways recordings. Adam and Rob have laid down their tracks and they sound awesome. Vocals are next and then we’re on to mixing! We can’t wait to release these songs for you. In the meantime, I should tell you we are playing a holiday show on Saturday 11/26 at the Northstar at 27th and Poplar Sts in Philly. Please come out and join us for some holiday cheer! We’ll be debuting a couple sweet new tunes. Then stick around because our friends Caitlin and Chris from Blue Hippopotamus will be playing an acoustic set right after. BYO eggnog.
